The working group conducts research studies on obesity and cancer within the body of the DESAM Research Institute. One of its main goals is to produce information on cancer at the molecular level and to create national projects. In addition, it is the unit responsible for projecting, conducting, and supporting R&D studies, which will bring together multidisciplinary scientific groups and turn universal contemporary knowledge into a product. The working group carries out studies in the fields of breast cancer, colon cancer, pancreatic cancer, and liver cancer. It conducts research on the prevention of cancer and the introduction of plant species, which are endemic to Cyprus and widely used among the people, to the pharmaceutical industry. Within the scope of the Institute's activities, the research group has many international articles and congress papers in the field of cancer. It also has joint projects with different universities in Turkey and Cyprus.

Obesity is one of the most important health problems in developed and developing countries. The primary goal of the working group is to determine the cause of obesity at the molecular level and to carry out scientific research and projects to prevent it. Genetic and biochemical changes that cause obesity predisposition are being investigated. In addition, the cellular effects of natural resources that can potentially be used in the prevention of obesity are determined and R&D studies are designed.
